A dog walk that leads to the number 13

empty dog park = sad dog

As I took my dog out for a bit of canine socializing, we were both struck (me mostly) to find that not only was the dog park devoid of our 4-legged friends, but the rest of the ravine was packed full of people picnicking and barbecuing.

Looks like I wasn’t the only one wondering…

Then it dawned on me. I counted with my fingers starting from March 21. “1 – 2 – 3 … 13”. Today being April 3rd (also Good Friday – but one thing at a time shall we!), is the 13th day of the Persian New Year, and known as Sizdah Bedar. Meaning ‘passing of the 13th’, this day celebrates the fact that the unlucky 13th day has gone. I have read about this but opted it out of my Persian New Year post for the sake of shortening it (which I shall now add!).

Despite feeling a bit creepy for observing and admiring these families enjoying their time, I couldn’t help but wonder….
It’s practically universal… why the number 13?
